An identified and documented variation of an approved and controlled physical item.

Item versions enable you to identify variations of a basic item configuration. Identification of a new version of an item configuration does not affect the baselines of current existing versions of the same basic item.

Versions can be applied to both hardware and software. The allocated part number and the version form the unique prime identifier for the physical item.
